The workday of an IceKart Marshall

You undoubtedly have the coolest and most original job if you are an IceKart Marshall. Right? Wondering what exactly a ‘normal working day’ of an IceKart Marshall looks like? We tell you all about it in this blog!

The coolest job

After opening the doors and loading the IceKarts, our Head Marshalls’ day starts with testing the ice track and lap time software yourself. Just relax yourself and drift around the track (-2 °C) and maybe break your personal record. Then the Head Marshal and Marshalls review the day’s schedule. Groups can drop by for group outings, company outings or perhaps an original bachelor party. Of course, guests also regularly come drifting with children, family or friends! In the pit lane, the Marshall assists in putting on the helmet and neck straps. We take all guests to the electrically powered IceKarts. We then arrange for the group to drive onto the ice and we supervise. As IceKarting is totally different from regular karting, our Marshalls give tips after the first session to apply in the next drifting session. We conclude the programme, this often happens with an award ceremony on the podium!

Our Head of IceKart, Marco, talks about the tasks on the ice karting track:
“Besides welcoming and guiding groups, an IceKart Marshall has many other responsibilities. A very important and often underestimated part of our work is maintaining the track and everything around it. At IceKart Rucphen-Breda, we work with various machines and materials. All these require proper maintenance. For instance, we handle minor tasks like fixing a visor that has come loose from a helmet or washing our special IceKart overalls.
When it comes to maintenance on and around the track, the tasks become a bit larger. Since we work in cold conditions and with ice, the work is very unique. What many people underestimate is that the behavior of ice is very slow, so you don’t see the effects immediately. For example, the outer curves often accumulate more ice. Fortunately, we are experts in this and have developed various behind-the-scenes methods to monitor this closely.”
